4.3 Support for the Service Industries
Although the Malaysian industry is just beginning to turn from being an
agrarian economy into a manufacturing-based one, the developed countries
already have economies that thrive on service-based industries. In
order to catch up and surpass these mature economies, Malaysia must also
begin developing its services industry (to serve both local and foreign
customers) at a rapid rate.
Speed, efficiency, high-availability and quality service levels are very important criteria for any service industry. The NIG will enable service providers to deliver their products and services across distances timely and accurately, thus creating a virtual nationwide (and global) presence for themselves. This factor will boost the services industry sector, propelling Malaysia towards being a fully developed nation.
