6.3 Secondary Implementation Phase
The development which immediately follows the initial phase basically continues
with connecting more information providers to the NIG. These IPs
fall into two general categories:
-
Private or government bodies that, because of the NIG’s presence, wishes
to enter the information service industry.
-
Private or government bodies that have a wealth of information already
residing in IT assets and are highly suitable candidates to become NIG-based
IPs such as:-
-
The Statistics Department
-
Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (MDTCA)
-
Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI)
-
Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA. At the time of
writing MIDA is planning to computerise through its proposed CIS -- Computerised
Information System).
-
Bank Negara Malaysia (e.g. statistics and interest / exchange rates)
-
Road and Transportation Department (RTD)
-
Registrar of Companies (ROC)
-
Private financial institutions (e.g. interest / exchange rates and historical
returns data)
-
Telecommunications companies (e.g. telephone numbers and services directories)
-
Electronic Document Interchange (EDI) service providers (e.g. EDIM and
VADS)
Also during this phase, if the use of new delivery mechanisms such
as dataphones, videophones and cable TV are becoming common (subject to
the telcos’ and broadcasters’ abilities to transport the data), the NIG
must also support the delivery of information through these devices.
