5.1 National Information Infrastructure
Building the “Infostructure”. As a central component,
the NIG will play a significant role in the construction of Malaysia’s
Information Infrastructure.
Planned Development. The NIG will be a planned national-level information grid with pre-determined timeframes, socio-economic and corporate goals.
Focused Growth. The development of the NIG will be a shared global objective among participating organisations in building the comprehensive national information infrastructure.
Rapid Catch-up Pace. The NIG’s developmental pace will also be at a rate that enable the development of our country’s information infrastructure into one that is comparable to those in the developed countries within a relatively shorter period.
Digitalisation. The NIG will encourage the digitalisation of information, which can then be manipulated and processed further according to user needs, and also be transferred quickly from a source to a destination without loss of quality and fidelity, and saves a lot of physical storage space.
