5.3 Government
Leadership. As a planned national effort, the government
will be effectively leading the drive for its development. With the
NIG company’s umbrella concept of development, the government will have
the ability to lead and monitor its direction
while the NIG company coordinate the efforts of several participating corporations.
Tax Revenue. The NIG will give a boost to an emerging industry that may grow in size to rival that of the telecommunications industry and provide a new source of tax revenue.
Cost Avoidance. The NIG will serve to help the government save on costs associated with implementing, operating and managing IT-based services by being the national clearing house for government information.
Market and Economic Feedback. As the national information clearing house, the NIG will be able to provide feedback to the government (and the private sector) on the information market for its planning processes, policy-making, etc.
Information Integration. The NIG will provide a platform for the integration of government information services and delivery by connecting all government databases and data centres, and ensuring data interchangeability and one-stop access points.
